A BIG THANKS FOR ALL THE VERY THOUGHTFUL AND GENEROUS
HOLIDAYS GIFTS FOR THE SCHOOL AND FOR TEACHERS!! IT IS
ALWAYS WONDERFUL TO BE APPRECIATED AND IT IS GREAT TO
HAVE SO MANY RESOURCES TO GET NEW SUPPLIES FOR THE
CLASSROOMS!!

Also- a HUGE THANK YOU to all the families who donated gifts and $
to the Joy to the Children Project. We just received some heartfelt
handwritten thank you notes from the children and parents of the
families who were on the receiving end of your generosity. It is great
to be part of such a great example of the true holiday spirit!

WELCOME ABOARD to 6 new families who have recently enrolled
children at NCS. Four children have just joined the 2-Day Upstairs
Class: Drew and Cooper Richard, Cohan Jarvis, and Daniel D’Entremont.
Two children just joined the 2-Day Downstairs Class: Isabella Lord and
Kayla Potuzak!

The weather has finally turned COLD!  At NCS we still go outside
almost every day.  PLEASE send your child to school with a warm
jacket, hats and mittens.  If they do not have the proper gear, we will
have to ask them to stay inside during recess with whoever is in the
office.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If your child tends to give you a difficult time at
home about wearing any of the necessary outdoor gear PLEASE
ALWAYS SEND IT IN WITH THEM(especially WARM hats and
MITTENS) and we will make sure they put it on. At school we are
often outside in the cold weather for a half an hour or so – so it is
absolutely necessary for children to be appropriately dressed. We tell
them it is not a choice because we need to keep them safe and  “IT’S
THE RULE AT SCHOOL”. Once this is enforced consistently children
rarely give us a hard time and if they do then they need to stay inside.
It may help at home to have a similar rule! 3 and 4 year olds (and 5’s)
need to be gently and regularly reminded that we are the adults and it
is our job to make safe and appropriate choices for them. They can
choose what color coat and hat and mittens- but we need to make sure
they wear them!!

Kindergarten Readiness:
This is the time of year that the public schools are sending out
Kindergarten registration notices to parents of eligible children. We
will put flyers in your children’s bags for Norfolk, as well as Franklin.
Be sure to check with your town to find out the dates for
registration.  If you have any concerns about your child’s readiness and
have not already had a conversation with one of your child’s teachers
this would be a good time to have one.

Please watch for our J-Term information which will be sent home in
your child’s bag sometime in February.
J-Term is our June program which is open to any current or new
incoming students at NCS.  There are four one week sessions. May 29-
June 1, June 4-8, June 11-15, and June 18-22.   You may opt for 1, 2, 3,
or all 4 weeks, or none at all. Sessions run for three hours in the
morning. 9am-12pm and the children all stay for lunch.

VALENTINES DAY...
Parents have started to ask ... do the children exchange valentines at
school. In short - WE DO NOT - at least not in a formal “make one for
everyone in the class” kind of exchange. We don’t do this because many
of the 3 year olds and even quite a few 4 year olds still don’t even
know the names of all the children in their class. So, making them “en
mass” doesn’t mean as much to them as making them one at a time at
the writing table for someone THEY really want to make one for i.e.
Mom or Dad, a grandparent, a cousin, a friend at school, or one in their
neighborhood, etc. So PLEASE DO NOT SEND VALENTINES FOR
THE WHOLE CLASS TO SCHOOL, but...
Many of the classrooms set up a POST OFFICE and the children can
make their own Valentines or MAIL!!   Thanks!  If your child does want
to bring something in, a package of stickers for the writing table would
be very much appreciated.

Thank you to those parents who have brought in snack, and disposable
camera donations.  It is always greatly appreciated by all.  Just a
reminder to check the safe snack list for our approved snacks.  Due to
the many allergies, we cannot make any substitutes.

REMINDER: Our State licensors requires us to keep all medical
information on the children up to date. Please send in copies of any new
Physical Examinations and Immunization Records, WITH THE DOCTOR’
S SIGNATURE, when your child has his/her yearly physical. You are
welcome to make copies here if that helps. Thanks so much!

The Parent Advisory Board is organizing a great night out for parents,
on February 11, 2012.  We will be hosting a silent auction as well as
many raffle items.  The money raised will go toward the Janine O’
Toole Scholarship fund.   The scholarship fund is awarded to Norfolk
Children’s School families in need of tuition assistance.  It was named
after Janine O’Toole in March 2006 after her passing early that
month.
Janine O’Toole was a part of our community for over 5 years.  Her son
Jonathon graduated from NCS in the spring of 2006 and Jocelyn in
2008.

The O’Toole family has given so much to our community, many may have
heard of her husband “Fire Fighter Dave” who has visited many of our
classrooms to teach us about fire safety.  As a stay at home mother,
she was directly involved with both of her children always looking to
give them the best of everything.  She not only gave to her children
but to the Medfield and Norfolk Communities as well.  Janine spent
quite a bit of her time here at school as a substitute teacher as well
as a volunteer on most of our fieldtrips.  We were all saddened to hear
of her passing and wanted to keep her spirit alive by offering
scholarship monies in her name.
Please watch for more information to come out about this fun filled
night.
