April/May 2012
During the month of April, the children were busy in dramatic play
cooking and serving each other while dining at the NCS restaurant.
Often times, the kitchen was full with workers, and we had to
search for customers to come and sit at the table because everyone
was busy cooking in the kitchen. At the beginning of April, we had a
brainstorming session about what happens to the weather in the
spring time. From that point, we began creating art work and
projects that encompassed the theme of spring. Our projects
included planting our own rainbow of color upon reading the story
Planting a Rainbow. We also had forsythia branches in our classroom,
and the children made their own creation using yellow tissues paper
and markers. We continued our letter bags and introduced offering
snacks that began with the letter of the day. We had Kiwi on “K”
day, Popsicles and Popcorn on “P” day, and Oranges on “O” day! The
most exciting news was the transformation of our cocoons into
butterflies that occurred on the Friday afternoon right before April
vacation! This was a perfect time for the children and the teachers.
We were so excited to welcome them and to name them.
We had a visit from the fire department, and we were able to see
our teacher Mrs. Conca  get dress in  official firefighter gear.  The
children loved going inside the fire truck and asking questions about
the various parts of the fire truck, especially the siren.  As they
drove out of our driveway, they sounded their sirens, and we all
waved good bye. Thank you to the Norfolk Fire Department!
Another high point in the month of April was our trip to Drew and
Brady Herlin’s grandparent’s house. We had a wonderful day from
the bus ride, to the Herlin home, and to the train ride around the
Herlin property.  Thanks to all the parents that came along on the
field trip. To top off our day, the weather cooperated so we were
able to have a snack outside while listening to music and stories on a
blanket. It will be a fond memory we believe your child will have
about NCS as they leave us to go to their new schools. Thank you to
the Herlin family for the wonderful memory!
During the month of May, we transformed dramatic play into an ice
cream stand. The children have been busy serving ice cream to each
other. We made pretend ice cream cones and polled our favorite
flavor of ice cream!  The children have asked for a “real” ice cream
day so we are planning to have one on the last day of school.  There
will be more information to follow in regards to that. Also, during
the last weeks of school, we will have special days. Some have
requested a Hat Day and others have requested a Stuffed Animal
Day.  We will provide you with information as soon as we plan dates
for these days. Parents, at this time, want to come into school these
last few weeks to spend time with their child. We would love to have
you. Just let us know which day works for you, and we will do our
best to accommodate you.

At this time, Claudia and I want to thank each and every one of you
for all your support and generosity over the course of this year. We
cannot believe how much growth each one of the children have had
this year. We strive to set goals at the beginning of the school year
for each child in our care, and as the year draws to a close, we are
able to celebrate all the growth that has occurred in our Pre K
class!   We hope we will send your child off to kindergarten with a
good sense of self as well as a love for learning.  Thank you again, and
we hope you have a relaxing and fun-filled summer with your families.
Please come back and visit us to tell us all about kindergarten as we
would love to hear your stories.
All our best,

Debi and Claudia
