November 2011
The children are continuing with another month of learning through
“hands on” experiences.  We went on a nature walk and explored the
various leaves they found on their walk.  We have read stories and
examined pictures of leaves that are native to New England. The
children created their own leaf collage using the leaves they
collected.  With the remainder of the leaves we were able to graph
them by color, size and the species.  In the math area we estimated
and then counted how many leaves were in the estimation jar!  The
weather has allowed us to go out and enjoy our outside classroom
area. Since the weather has been so enjoyable we were able to have
lunch outside and this time with our friends from the upstairs
classroom.  During our class time we have been brainstorming the
various signs of fall and have learned songs that relate to this
season. Our dramatic play area has been transformed into a bakery
and the children have named it: My Little Cupcake Shop. They have
been having fun pretending to be baking cakes, cupcakes and breads
while playing in the bakery. We hope to create our own classroom
cook book using your child’s words.  Within our class room we will be
making rainbow toast, pancakes, and harvest soup!  This month we
will be sharing what we are thankful to have in other words what
makes us happy and sharing traditions that our family may do around
this season.  During this month we will hold another pizza day. Your
child is welcomed to send in $5.00 and we will provide pizza, cookies
and water bottle on that day! The children get so excited for this
day. We are thrilled to announce that this month Cole’s grandmother
who is a professional artist is going to bring materials and a project
idea for the children.  We are grateful for her visit. We welcome
anyone who would like to come and share their talent or hobby with
the Pre K class.  The children enjoy it when you come and share, and
we allow your child to be your special helper, and they love that job.
So feel free to come in anytime as we would love to have you!
We hope that you have a Happy Thanksgiving. Claudia and I are
thankful for the children of our PRE K class as they bring us so much
joy each and every day!
