NCS Before and After
Welcome to Norfolk Children's School!
OUR PHILOSOPHY Children are unique human beings. They have individual learning styles. A great pre-school provides stimulating materials, an inviting, safe and responsive environment, and well-planned curriculum. Most importantly, we have a uniquely warm, nurturing staff of teachers that is capable of leading and following your child as he or she learns and grows.
Please take some time to visit us here on the web, and also at our school. We look forward to meeting you!
Warmest Regards, Renee Cerqua Owner/Teacher

children better people for having entered your school,
but we are better parents for having known all of
you. Thank you!”

NORFOLK CHILDREN’S SCHOOL IS CELEBRATING IT’S 30th
(1982-2012)
Article in the local newspapers:
“In a world that expects you to fit in, we teach you to stand out”.
That is the motto that graces a sign welcoming families to the
Norfolk Children’s School, located at 23 Union St. in Norfolk.
NCS is a Developmental Preschool, licensed by the Department
of Early Education and care, accepting children who are 2.9 until
entrance to Kindergarten. It has served families in Norfolk and
countless surrounding communities for 3 decades, including;
Franklin, Wrentham, Medfield, Millis, Medway, Plainville,
Walpole, Bellingham, Blackstone, Mansfield, Foxboro, Mendon,
and even Natick. What has drawn so many families to NCS? If
“Wonder is the beginning of wisdom”, then the certified,
experienced, and caring staff at NCS believe that a quality early
childhood education is essential for every child, and that we can
best achieve this goal by respecting and nurturing each child’s
natural curiosity. What sets NCS apart is the focus teachers
put on adapting the Massachusetts State Curriculum
Frameworks to fit the unique developmental needs and interests
of each child, rather than making the child “fit” the curriculum.
As the Cronin family of Franklin put it; “You have provided a safe
nest for all of our ‘birds’ to tuck into. Our children have felt
secure and loved but have been given plenty of room to fly and be
themselves”. Creativity, dedication, and professionalism are the
hallmarks of NCS, and the staff works to communicate with,
educate, and involve parents in meaningful ways. NCS has also
developed a comprehensive program for children with food
allergies. This was accomplished with the help of several
concerned parents and one of NCS’s veteran teachers who is also
an experienced Registered Nurse!
In 30 years NCS has had three owners. Ann Mahoney established
the school in 1982. In 1990, Pam Mele MS Ed. (of Wrentham)
became the owner and director, as the school flourished for the
next 15 years. The current owner, Renee Cerqua, connected with
NCS as a parent and experienced Child Care provider. Her two
sons “graduated” from NCS and her daughter is currently a 2-
Day student. Since she acquired NCS in 2005, Renee has worked
hard to give NCS a facelift, both inside and out, with brand new
siding, fresh paint and updating inside, and a large refurbished
two-level playground, complete with a new “outdoor classroom”
space! She has also added extended day programs for both 3 and
4 year olds and a Pre-K extended day class, all at costs that are
comparable to or less than most surrounding area schools! This
past fall a 30th Year Festival was held at the Herlin Family home
(one of our current families!) in Wrentham. Jennifer Herlin and
several other parents present at the festival attended NCS
when they were young and have continued the tradition with their
own children!
